Yeosu City Guide – The Expo

While it has been our humble home and the basecamp for many of our adventures, Yeosu is probably most notable for the Yeosu Expo which was held in 2012. This area of town has enormous buildings that were constructed to host a conference for oceanic sustainability and conservation a few years ago, but still hold a few attractions for visitors today. In a continuing effort to bring more people to our lovely city, we present our four favorite Yeosu Expo attractions as well as an English map we’ve made of the area. Guys… We’re Back!

Gosh guys! We’ve been pretty quiet over here at Hedgers Abroad for the past couple of weeks. A lot has been going on and we’ve been so busy that we had to simply put our blogging on hold. The main reason for this was Ryan’s mom coming to visit us! She has been to Korea twice now. The first time she came, it was our first year, we were still living in Seoul, and we were just Korea babies.

Yeosu City Guide – Kayaking

Of all the wonderful outdoor opportunities Yeosu has to offer, kayak is probably the most overlooked. Being a coastal city, Yeosu had plenty of access to water and the views from our beaches are pretty amazing. While the beaches, Cable Car, and ferries may get most of the attention on the waterfront, there are several facilities for renting and using sea kayaks around the bay, and each has its benefits as well as drawbacks.

Let’s go to… Geumodo Island!

Geumodo is a fairly large island off of the southern tip of Dolsan in Yeosu, South Korea. With an affinity for island hopping and exploring the numerous (373) islands claimed by our city, we set out to visit this nearby island and do a bit of camping on a beautiful but slightly foggy weekend.

We’ve really been happy to display the various aspects of our city in the City Guide we’ve been working on, but we wanted to take some time and show a bit more. Top Cities in Jeollanamdo

The southwest province of South Korea, Jeollanamdo, often is forgotten about when it comes to tourism. Many people stick to Seoul or Busan and the iconic national parks when touring the country. Beyond these typical tourist destinations, there are areas of the country that are rich in culture and tradition that you simply should not miss out on.

Only In Korea – Cat Cafes

Stephanie loves cats. Ryan loves coffee. It is only natural that we at Hedgers Abroad are known to treat ourselves to an afternoon at a cat cafe from time to time. These specialty cafes are not unique in Korea, as we explored dog cafes, sheep cafes, and Dr. Fish (seen here and here) where fish nibble offf your dead skins cells while you enjoy lattes and smoothies, but they do hold a special place in our hearts as our favorite to visit.

Korean Noms – Bingsu

Every year, Korean temperatures steadily rise during the summer months. This rise in mercury coincides with the rise of a popular icy dessert that Koreans use to battle the summer heat: Bingsu. All across the Korean peninsula cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants start putting out advertisements for this popular dish on storefronts, sidewalks, billboards, and even music videos.
