Of all the wonderful outdoor opportunities Yeosu has to offer, kayak is probably the most overlooked. Being a coastal city, Yeosu had plenty of access to water and the views from our beaches are pretty amazing. While the beaches, Cable Car, and ferries may get most of the attention on the waterfront, there are several facilities for renting and using sea kayaks around the bay, and each has its benefits as well as drawbacks. Explore More – Batu Caves Video
A short distance from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur lies an astonishing place known as the Batu Caves. This sprawling tourist attraction contains three separate caves, each filled with different sights but the largest cave sits atop the 273rd step of a towering staircase and was the sole reason for our visit. Continue reading
Let’s go to… Geumodo Island!
Geumodo is a fairly large island off of the southern tip of Dolsan in Yeosu, South Korea. With an affinity for island hopping and exploring the numerous (373) islands claimed by our city, we set out to visit this nearby island and do a bit of camping on a beautiful but slightly foggy weekend. Continue reading
Summer Dip Dye!
It’s summer vacation and there’s no better time to try something new. With a little over two weeks off from school, I decided that the purple hair dye I’ve been using to tone my hair would look pretty amazing on the tips of my hair. A fun dip dye for vacation abroad! Continue reading
Off the beaten path – Gosapo Beach
We are pretty discreet about our love for beaches and camping over here at Hedgers Abroad, but we’ll let you in on a little-known secret: we would rather camp on beaches in Southern South Korea than do just about anything else. I don’t know if it’s the rhythmic crashing of waves along the beach and rocks or if the cool salt air just makes camping a bit more relaxed, but from May until late July you’ll likely find us loading up our car on for some beach. Continue reading
How To Get Out And Explore Rural Korea
For the majority of people visiting or traveling through South Korea, Seoul (or maybe Busan) is the extent of their experience. These ultra-modern cities offer a great deal to a person wanting to experience today’s Korea, but offers very little if you are wanting to experience something more authentic. Don’t get me wrong, Seoul and Busan are fantastic cities. They provide endless entertainment and a wide variety of cultural elements all rolled into one. Cultures cross pollinate and blend in major cities and this happens in Korea in a really interesting way. For this reason we recommend exiting these major cities Continue reading
Inked in Korea
We finally did it, we got our Korea tattoos! Some of you already knew that we have been talking about doing this for quite some time, but for the rest of you, SURPRISE! Before we even moved to Korea, we knew we would probably end up getting tattoos as a way of memorializing our time spent abroad. Continue reading
6 Months of No Poo
We talked recently about trying to more actively simplify our lives. It has been the best decision we have made as it has given us so much more time for ourselves. I mentioned that we have made a switch from using regular shampoo and conditioner to using the “No Poo” method. Continue reading
A Day in the Life… How to Find a GOOD Hagwon Job
Last week we shared our extremely bad experience of our last year’s hagwon job. However, we do want to stress that even though situations like these can happen, there are many teachers who really love working for private academies and highly recommend them. The key is to know how to find the right school that is reputable. Continue reading
Gwanakasan Mountain
This weekend we summited the most incredible mountain we have ever hiked! We had seen pictures of Gwanaksan before, but they just don’t do it justice. So far all the mountains we have climbed here we simply see them off in the distance and just start walking towards it. I’m sure there are easier ways to get there, but we enjoy a pre-hike to our actual hike. Continue reading
