Bangkok is an amazing city with a storied past. Although never colonized by western powers, Bangkok changed hands many times as dynasties and monarchies came and went. After flourishing in the later part of the 20th century, Thailand’s capitol city is now a modern and prosperous center for Thai commerce and culture. Continue reading

In Focus: Phnom Penh
If it hasn’t been apparent by our other posts about Cambodia, let’s put it mildly by saying that we loved the country and its culture. The food, the temples, Cambodian people, the rich history; there wasn’t hardly a single negative side of this amazing country. Continue reading

In a previous post (click here to see that one) we described our visit to the Angkor Wat Complex while we were in Cambodia last Winter. We shared some pictures and described the awesome emotions that this storied temple can imbue upon its visitors, but we didn’t get around to sharing the video footage we shot. While the previous Angkor Wat post focused mainly on our perspective and wonder while in the temple complex, video has a way of allowing viewers to experience it a bit for themselves. There are several historical locations that have haunted my dreams ever since the days of my youth, thumbing through my dad’s stacks of National Geographic magazine.

The beaches of southern Thailand are relatively notorious for the crowds and parties that take place on pristine beaches and for good reason. The beaches south of Bangkok are stunning and attract a lot of people looking to unwind with a cheap Thai beer in each hand and perfect white sand between their toes. Just off of Phuket you can find all of these beaches and islands if this is that party you’re looking for. Continue reading

If there’s one lasting lesson that I have learned in my limited travels, it’s that the places most famous are often the ones least relaxing to spend time in. When a city, beach, resort, or even a road has been made legendary by history’s great travelers, it’s fairly safe to assume that it is now overrun by people attempting to recreate the stories which spurred their dreams of exotic adventure. Continue reading

While we have already described the beautiful resort and relaxing comforts to be found on Koh Mook in our previous post, we also spent time exploring the island and all it has to offer. From Charlie Beach Resort there are numerous opportunities for those wanting a change in scenery. Continue reading
In Focus: Koh Mook
A 5 hour, $6 bus ride took us down to Trang Province toward the Malaysian border from the overly touristy Phuket. Once there we found our way to the pier where it became obvious that we had missed the last ferry and would need to charter a private long tail boat to Koh Mook. Continue reading
Cambodia Sneak Peek
We are finally back in Korea after 18 days of traveling in Thailand and Cambodia! It’s strange to be back and teaching classes, though we are only playing a few review games with the students before graduation next week. Then it will be spring vacation for the rest of February and we will be off on more adventures, this time around Korea. Continue reading
Southern Thailand Sneak Peek
Our stay in southern Thailand has, unfortunately, come to an end. Four short days just didn’t seem like enough and we are sad to be leaving so soon.
It was a long journey, but after 6 taxis, 3 flights, 3 buses, a tuktuk, train, and a quick boat ride we finally made it to Koh Mook Island in Trang. Continue reading
